Revival Food & Mood featured on BBC South East Today

Our wellbeing cafe and mental health hub Revival Food & Mood was featured on BBC South East Today recently as part of Whitstable Unplugged’s Digital Detox Sundays.

The aim of Digital Detox Sundays is to have a once-a-month Sunday that is free from digital devices that can be embraced by the whole community.

This will be a regular event at Revival Food & Mood on the last Sunday of every month and they are aiming for Whitstable to be the first town to digitally detox together. The café will be a place where people can visit and chat, play board games, listen to music from a DJ and relax and unwind.

Deborah Haylett, Executive Director of Revival Food & Mood said: “A regular digital detox allows us to step away from the overwhelming influx of information, reduce stress, and reconnect with our surroundings and ourselves. Just as we need rest for our bodies, our minds require time free from screens to recharge, promote clarity and restore balance in our increasingly fast-paced world.

We invite local community members to join us on the last Sunday of every month, whether it’s to read, chat, or listen to music, we can all unplug together.”

A digital detox can have many benefits, helping to improve both mental and physical wellbeing.

Here are some key advantages:

  • Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Taking a break from screens can lower stress levels and anxiety, as constant notifications and digital demands can be overwhelming
  • Physical Health Improvements: Less screen time can reduce symptoms like eye strain, headaches and neck pain related to prolonged device use
  • Improved Sleep: Disconnecting from devices, especially before bedtime, can enhance sleep quality by reducing blue light exposure that interferes with your natural cycle
  • Better Relationships: Engaging in direct face-to-face interactions can strengthen personal relationships and improve communication skills
  • Greater Appreciation for the Present: Digital detox can help you become more mindful and appreciate the present moment
  • Creativity Boost: By unplugging, you create more time for creativity as you’re not constantly consuming digital content
  • Improved Work-life Balance: Setting boundaries with digital devices can foster a healthier balance between work and personal life
  • Hobbies and Interests: Without digital distractions, you can explore and invest time in hobbies and activities you enjoy

Overall, a digital detox can help reset your relationship with technology, making you more mindful of how you interact with digital devices in the future.
